EVENTS

Events, festivals, celebrations, and new to enjoy our territory

The most eventful season is undoubtedly autumn, starting with September when Festivals, Palio and Douja enrich the cultural visit of the city.

SAGRE CONTADINE

During the Sagre Contadine (Country Fair), which takes place in Piazza del Palio (Palio square), about 40 villages offer you their food specialties together with some of the best Asti wines. Don’t miss the colourful procession that winds its way through the city, with more than 3000 characters with authentic period costumes, farm tractors and farming tools, which represent the values and traditions of this beautiful land.

WINE STREET

After the resounding success of last year, CRE [AT] IVE, a non-profit cultural association, proposes the new edition of Asti Wine Street Tasting 2019 through the streets of the historic center of the city of Asti. The edition of the past year , counted 38 participating clubs. The 2019 edition of this splendid food and wine tour instead, saw a total of 41 participating venues.

The event was created to advertise the delicacies of Monferrato, in fact in over 41 of the premises of the historic center (Restaurant, Bar, Pub, Butchers), it will be possible to taste delicious wines and typical dishes of Piedmontese cuisine.

ARTI E MERCANTI

At Arti e Mercanti you can observe workshops of artisans, blacksmiths, carpenters, chisellers, painters, sculptors, hairdressers and plant engineers to demonstrate their work in past times, while in the taverns it was possible to taste dishes prepared with the ingredients of the time.

Great attraction was also aroused by the animation of the jugglers, the fire eaters, the dancers, the falconers, the archers, the puppeteer, but everyone paused to appreciate the coin-mitter who was beating money.

The stretch of Corso Alfieri between the walls of Piazza Santa Caterina and via Roero has been carefully transformed into a medieval village from the 14th century.

PALIO DI ASTI

The Palio di Asti horse race is one of the most important events in Piedmont and the oldest Palio in Italy. From the XII century, it has taken place on the second Sunday of September in the central square of Asti (Piazza Alfieri); 21 horses ridden bareback by 21 jockeys which represent 14 quarters of the town and 7 villages of the province.

DOUJA D’OR

The “Douja d’Or” Prize is a National Oenological Competition for DOC and DOCG wines; it takes place in September and it is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Asti with the technical support of ONAV-Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori di Vino (Wine Tasters National Organisation).

It then continues with the real truffle …. Typical are the international and national fairs that wind through the territory. We mention the most important: Alba (CN), Moncalvo (AT), Montechiaro (AT), Rivalba (TO), Murisengo (AL) and San Sebastiano Curone (AL).

If you wish to spend your moments of relaxation in other periods you can consult the calendar of the ATL at the following address where the events of the province are listed www.astiturismo.it or our FB page always updated.
